Founded in 1989, the Association of Energy Services Professionals (AESP) is a member-based 501c3 nonprofit organization currently serving 4,700+ members in the United States and Canada through its headquarters organization and 12 Regional Chapters. AESP is dedicated to ensuring a sustainable and resilient energy future through educating the energy industry on how to effectively develop, deliver, and implement equitable customer-centric energy efficiency, distributed energy resource, and demand flexibility programs for the electric and gas sectors. SUMMARY  

The Training Manager reports to the Vice President of Programs and Education and is responsible for the strategy and execution of the organization’s AESP Academy - a training portfolio including asynchronous online, instructor-led synchronous online, and in-person training courses. The Training Manager also maintains and manages course documentation including AESP’s IACET accreditation and any qualifications required to offer PDHs or CEUs. Additionally, the Training Manager manages all training event logistics and coordinates with instructors to deliver in-person and online training. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT    

This position can be located anywhere in the continental United States and work may be completed remotely. Air travel may be required two to four times annually to support in-person events. The organization will work with the successful candidate to identify and supply all appropriate resources necessary to complete assigned tasks. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • AESP Academy Strategy and Planning 

  • Work with staff to identify training needs, develop learning courses, and manage the training budget 

  • Coordinate with the Board of Directors Education and Publications Committee on trainers and content 

  • Develop and execute annual Call for Trainers 

  • Review and refine trainer compensation framework 

  • Recruit, vet, and interview new trainers 

  • Manage training partnerships 

  • Assist with grant writing and grant project management 

  • AESP Academy Management 

  • Serve as project manager for training / workforce development grants or projects 

  • Act as point of contact for instructors and host companies 

  • Act as lead liaison for external Instructional Design Contractor 

  • Collect and finalize presentation decks 

  • Coordinate logistical details for onsite and online trainings 

  • Print and ship training materials for onsite trainings 

  • Schedule and host online trainings 

  • Maintain and distribute registration lists for trainings to instructors and staff 

  • Manage asynchronous courses within LMS (Learning Management Software) and AMS (Association Management System) 

  • Create evaluations for attendee feedback and compile results for instructors and staff 

  • Register learner accounts in LMS (Learning Management Software) 

  • Track all training-related revenue, expenses, and other data metrics for organizational financials and goals   

  • IACET CEU Management 

  • Create and manage course and learner files 

  • Grade learner tests 

  • Log CEUs/PDHs for learner files 

  • Maintain AESP IACET standards 

  • Lead IACET re-accreditation 

  • Notify attendees of their earned CEUs 

  • Provide CEU certificates for those who met or exceeded IACET CEU requirements 

  • Conference Management 

  • Develop CEU evaluation forms for conferences and pre/post-conference training courses 

  • Communicate with instructors and attendees prior to a pre/post-conference training 

  • Provide workbooks and other written materials for pre/post conference trainings 

  • Manage pre/ post-conference trainings 

  • Assist events liaison with document and material shipping as needed 

  • Collect, compile, and calculate CEU evaluation forms after the conference/trainings 

  • Notify attendees of their earned CEUs 

  • Provide CEU certificates for those who met or exceeded IACET CEU requirements

Requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS    

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the qualifications listed below with requisite onboarding support and training. These desired qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to effectively complete assigned duties.   • Hands-on experience coordinating multiple training events in a corporate setting  

  • Extensive knowledge of instructional design theory and implementation  

  • Adequate knowledge of learning management systems and web delivery tools  

  • Proven ability to complete full training cycle (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate)  

  • Familiarity with traditional and modern job training methods and techniques  

  • Experience with e-learning platforms  

  • MS Office proficiency 

  • Advanced project management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments  

  • Strong communication skills 

  • Experience and/or interest in the clean energy sector, including energy efficiency and demand flexibility 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  

  • Four-year degree in related field or equivalent from two-year college plus instructional design credentials  

  • At least three years of experience as a Training Professional, Trainer, Training Facilitator, or similar role 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS    

  • Training certification, including, but not limited to, these credentials preferred: 

  • Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD)  

  • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) 

  • Certified Professional in Training Management (CPTM) 

  • Certified Instructional Designer/Developer (CIDD) 

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
