The Senior Research Process Controls Engineer will work in Cargill Research & Development within the Food Business. This role will partner with Smart Manufacturing and Cargill manufacturing plants to apply expertise in advanced process controls and data analytics to improve safety, sustainability, and efficiency across the enterprise to help us nourish the world in a safe, responsible, and sustainable way.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and implement advanced process controls strategies across Cargill plants.
- Assist the North American and South American regional Smart Manufacturing teams and manufacturing sites with high-value, high-priority process controls projects.
- Collaborate with regional and global teams to deliver scalable impact through process controls.
- Estimate project scope, level of effort, and value for controls projects.
- Provide process controls and other engineering expertise within projects related to yield improvement, energy efficiency, throughput, down-time reduction, product quality and variable cost reduction.
- Identify new opportunities for process improvements by analyzing production data and developing process controls strategies aligned with business objectives that can be scaled quickly over multiple facilities.
- Communicate effectively across a variety of stakeholders including R&D, Smart Manufacturing, plant operations, and business leaders. Ability to influence without direct authority.
- Develop new capabilities in process controls and bring awareness of state-of-the-art technology to Cargill.
- Consult with Cargill plants and Smart Manufacturing teams on root causes of suboptimal control performance and design appropriate solutions.
- Be accountable for enabling business results from process control efforts.
- Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Possesses comprehensive knowledge of processes and controls.
- Minimum of four years of related work experience.
- Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with advanced process control and model predictive control.
- Experience with DCS Controls systems such as DeltaV, D3, ControlLogix, PlantPAx, ABB DCS, etc.
- Experience with controls in food and beverage manufacturing.
- Experience with utility systems: boilers, cogeneration, cooling water systems.
- Proven experience working in an agile environment.
- Master's and/or PhD degree.

Compensation Information
The expected salary for this position is $125,000-$155,000. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific location, certifications, education, and level of experience. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award. The incentive award amount is dependent upon company performance and your personal performance.
