- Associate - Energy Regulatory
Description
Keegan Werlin LLP is looking for an intermediate level attorney familiar with energy, public utility, administrative law matters and associated regulatory concepts, particularly as implemented in Connecticut and other New England states. This role is ideal for a legal professional who brings an interest in strategic understanding of state-level utility regulation and policy.
Attributes of our attorneys include enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, quantitative skills, analytical ability on complex subject matters, excellent writing and communication skills, as well as the ability to solve problems and to execute and transfer knowledge. A background in economics or financial analysis, while not required, is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent electric and gas utilities before state regulatory agencies, including proceedings related to rates, procurement of clean energy resources, supply contracting, resource adequacy, system planning, and compliance.
- Review and draft discovery responses, motions on relevant subject matters, and briefs on subjects such as distribution rates and rate-making, energy supply, grid modernization, system reliability, cybersecurity, service quality, energy affordability, and state-specific energy policies and environmental goals.
- Review and have knowledge of the record to best assist the client in testimony development, witness preparation, evidentiary hearings, and filings.
- Research and apply legal standards to utility-specific proposals and statewide programs.
- Lead and coordinate the development of collaborative joint utility positions and work product.
- Assist in developing and implementing regulatory strategies.
- Guide clients through evolving regulatory frameworks.
Requirements
Qualifications
Legal experience within an energy practice, administrative agency, or in-house counsel with an organization in the energy industry preferred.
- Admitted to practice in Connecticut (admission in MA, RI or NH also valuable)
- Ability to respond effectively to client needs and issues
- Ability and desire to work within a dynamic, high-focus team environment
- Highly professional with superior verbal and written communications skills
